Deliciously Chilly Fridge and Freezer Treats

As much as we enjoy the summer weather, it can take its toll on us and leave us feeling overheated. One of our favorite ways of cooling down is to kick back and enjoy an icy cold homemade treat, and we've compiled a list of our favorites to share with you. One of the great things about frozen desserts is that you can make them ahead of time and store them in the freezer until you're ready to eat them. We've got something for everyone and every skill level in this list – from super easy popsicles, to healthy frozen snacks and even some treats that are for adults only.

Blended Drinks

When the temperature's rising and you find yourself parched, a blended drink is the perfect way to quench a thirst. While many blended drinks have liquor in them, the drinks in this section are alcohol free and perfect for the home family.

Frozen blended Butter Beer

Butter Beer (Pictured) – Butter Beer is a favorite drink among many of the students of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter Novels. Universal Studios collaborated with author J.K Rowling to create a real life version of the brew to sell at their Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park. You don't have to travel all the way to Orlando to try it though, you can now thrill your kids with this at make at home version!

Frozen Limeade – Lemon tends to get all of the love, but switch up your citrus fruits for a refreshing change.

Frozen Hot Chocolate – Hot chocolate is not just for winter anymore, with this recipe you can enjoy "hot" chocolate all year round.

Frozen Iced Tea - Frozen iced tea is perfect for sipping on a sunny porch.

Golden Beetle Slush – Don't worry, this drink is free of insects, but it's fruity combination of apricots, peaches and OJ give this drink the same color as the beetle after which it's named.

Strawberry Almond Horchata – Horchata is a Mexican drink made with rice.

Ice Cream – No Cook

Have you been thinking about picking up an ice cream maker but are intimidated by tempering eggs? Here are some great starter recipes that involve no cooking, so making your own ice-cream is easy! Just make sure you chill the canister in the freezer overnight and that you chill the ice cream base in the refrigerator for a few hours before churning it.

Butter Pecan Ice Cream – This classic flavor combination delights young and old alike.

Coconut Macadamia Ice Cream – Even though this ice cream contains no eggs, the coconut and macadamia nuts make it a rich indulgence.

Five Minute Ice Cream – The name says it all, this recipe only takes 5 minutes to put together.

Meyer Lemon – Meyer lemons are a bit sweeter than a typical lemon, which makes them perfect for ice creams.

Nutella Ice Cream – Who doesn't love the awesomeness of Nutella? What's also awesome about this recipe is that there are only two ingredients!

Peach Ice Cream – Since peaches have a delicate flavor, this recipe should be made in season when peaches are at their ripest and juiciest.

Vanilla – This recipe is while basic is in no way boring.

Ice Cream – Custard Bases

Custard or French style ice creams are a little more complicated to make than a no-cook ice cream. They use egg yolks which need to be tempered so you don't end up with scrambled eggs. It's worth the extra effort because the egg yolks add thickness and richness to the ice cream. Like with a no-cook ice cream, to get the best results make sure you chill the base mixture thoroughly in the fridge before churning.

Red Velvet Ice Cream

Classic Vanilla Ice Cream – If you only master one ice cream recipe, this is it.

Chocolate Ice Cream – The chocolatiest of all the chocolate ice creams.

Frozen yogurt shops – selling ice-cream's healthier and tangier cousin - have been sweeping the nation! It's easy to whip up a batch yourself, so the next time you have a craving, you can just take a trip to your freezer instead of the mall.

Coconut Frozen Yogurt – A taste of the tropics in Fro-Yo form.

Strawberry Basil Frozen Yogurt – A touch of basil takes this frozen yogurt from ordinary to extraordinary.

It's typically assumed that ice creams and the like are sweet, but in fact they can be savory creations as well. Sure it sounds a little strange at first, but when you think about it, cream is often used in warm savory sauces like Fettuccini Alfredo, so why shouldn't it work as a cold dish as well?
