The Dryer had simply quit turning off: either by moiture sensor or by timer. The timer knob would no longer advance.
I looked up the likely causes on this website and came up with two most likely causes: bad fuse ($10) or a bad timer assembly ($85). Since I suspected the timer assembly might be more likely cause but the fuse was relatively cheap, I went ahead and purchased both of those so I'd likely be able to fix it. Got the parts in 2 days, First I installed the fuse assembly using the video from this site as a coach. Took me maybe 5 minutes to replace, quite easy actually. Put it back together and tested to see if it had fixed the problem. It had not. So I replaced the timer assembly. I used the youtube videos of that for some coaching preparation. Again it was easy as pie. Took me 5 minutes to remove the old one and replace with the new one. Put it all back together and tested it. SUCCESS! that fixed it! So.. for about $100 in parts, I fixed it. The service call alone would have cost $150 not including parts, so I saved at least $150 doing it myself! The dryer took at least 3 rounds to dry light clothes and 4-5 for towels.
This was my second time making repairs. The only difference this time I replaced all parts from top to bottom. When I pulled the heating element out only one coil was working the others had burned out. It was easy to do and the videos on the site are very helpful and informative. I followed the steps and if I thought I missed a step I replayed it again. I am a woman and found it very easy and not at all intimidating at all. I am going to hopefully have it for another 10 yrs. Dryer stuck in middle of heat cycle.
Lets say the dryer ran all night thru the middle of the next day. It would stick on time dry and sensor dry cycle. Easy fix. Make sure you buy the right replacement timer. Remove the back cover of the control panel of the dryer. Make sure you unplug the dryer first. Two screws hold the timer in place. There are several wires connected to the timer. Take one off and place it on the new timer. Do this with all wires, it helps to use a needle nose pliers to pull the wires from the old timer. Install new timer with the two screws, replace the back panel, and plug the dryer back in. You're done. Pretty easy. Read more...

Timer stopped working
Well I unplugged the dryer, then I removed all the screws off the back of the main console. After that I unscrewed the old timer. Then I one by one moved the wires from the old timer control to the new timer control. Then i screwed in the new timer control. After that I screwed the back plate for the main console back on. And finally I plugged the dryer back in. And there you go it was that easy.


I also wanted to say that this experience with parts select was most amazing one too. I ordered the part one day with a 3 to 5 day delevery time. The following day I checked on the status and found out that the part would be here the next day so I was really amazed that it would be that quick. I would recommend and would come back to parts select for futuer needs for appliance parts. Read more...

Start Switch Won't Start Dryer
My wife and I had put up with this silly switch for months where we would continually pull and pull on the switch which used to take only one pull. I found PartSelect on line and chased down the part number I needed. Unfortunately, I misread the correct part number which was different for different serial numbers within the same model number. PartSelect solved this by shipping me the correct one after I discovered my mistake (the part originally sent would now start the dryer as it was supposed to but the timer didn't advance). Anyway, I had reviewed the other "installation instructions" available. It was slightly unclear to me, from reading the other descriptions, of how to remove the timer knob. The knob is in three (3) parts. To remove it, take a pocket knife or other very thin blade and slip under the silver cap and gently pry it off (it's held by four plastic studs which engage into the middle portion of the knob). Once the silver cap is off, remove the middle portion and the inner white portion by lifting straight off. Then, remove the three #10 star screws at the top of the control panel. The control panel then pivots toward you and you can lift it out of the frame to make access to the timer even easier. Next, gently remove the cable harness on the left side of the timer control assembly by depressing the tab in the middle of the connection piece and rocking gently back and forth (it is fairly snug) until you have disconnected the cable. Next, depress the plastic tab on the left side of the timer assembly and gently slide the whole timer assembly to the left (it has a plastic tab on each of the other three sides that slide under plastic holders). Insert the new timer control assembly and simply reverse all of the steps listed above taking care that the plastic feet on the new timer control assembly are engaged under the receiving plastic keepers. This is a really easy repair and took me less than 15 minutes to complete. Read more...
